    Yesterday, Sunday, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, inaugurated the Social Welfare Lottery Project (Iraq Lotto), which is the first humanitarian project to support the target groups of the Ministry's services.
    The minister said in a press conference held after the inauguration of the project, which was followed by "Al-Iqtisad News": "The Ministry of Labor prepared this national and charitable project as part of its interest in the target groups, and started activating it in 2017," noting that "the project aims to provide services to the covered groups." Under the auspices of the Ministry of the disabled, nurseries, and shelters in Baghdad and the provinces, including the Kurdistan region.
    He added that "the ministry contracted with a specialized company to initiate the social welfare lottery project, and 36% of its profits were determined to be distributed among residential units, institutes for the disabled, and nurseries, according to population ratios in the governorates," noting that "the sums deposited as trusts in the bank that It will be distributed among the residential homes, amounting to about 720 million dinars, while the share of the winners participating in these competitions amounted to about 870 million dinars.
    And Al-Asadi stated that "the profits achieved from the social welfare lottery project are still very low, and the reason is that the welfare lottery is still not clearly known to the different groups of society, in addition to the competition from some lottery programs, and competitions that are broadcast via satellite channels, which affects the program The government lottery, calling on the Media and Communications Authority to monitor and follow up on programs and competitions broadcast on satellite channels that affect the government lottery program.
    The minister also called on the various channels and media to support the project, as it is not only profitable as it contributes to alleviating the suffering of many vulnerable groups, especially in shelters for orphans, the disabled, and nurseries.
