Shafaq News/ The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani arrived, on Saturday, at Al-Shalamjah port in Basra Governorate, to launch a project with Iran.
A government source told Shafaq News agency, "The Sudanese arrived at the port to lay the foundation stone for the railway link project with the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Video clips transmitted by communication platforms also showed the arrival of security reinforcements at the Shalamcheh port to lay a foundation stone for the railway project.
This comes as confirmation of Shafaq News Agency, where a government official stated on Tuesday evening that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani will visit Basra Governorate next Saturday.
The source told Shafaq News agency that the visit aims to lay the foundation stone for the railway link project with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iraqi Minister of Transport recently paid a visit to the Iranian capital, Tehran, to discuss the file of the railway link for transporting passengers between the two countries.
An agreement between the two countries includes starting operations to remove mines planted since the eight-year war between the two countries (1980-1988) in the border areas, and the construction of a movable bridge on the Shatt al-Arab (north of Basra), to be completed within a year and a half.
