The Petroleum Products Company confirmed that implementing the electronic payment system at stations for refueling will completely eliminate the phenomenon of “tipping” that station workers receive from vehicle owners, while it indicated that the procedures for implementing electronic payment will be gradual.
The company’s director, Hussein Talib, said, “The Ministry has directed the need to provide vehicle owners with electronic payment cards by installing units and teams affiliated with the Ministry inside gas stations, whose mission is to give the cards to car owners for free,” pointing out that “this measure will help facilitate the step of obtaining Electronic payment card.
Talib added, “The step of implementing the electronic payment system with regard to fuel refueling will take place through several stages, the first of which is allowing joint refueling by manual cash payment and electronic payment for a limited period, and then tightening the procedures and restricting dealings via electronic cards until the stage of citizens being convinced of this electronic dealing.”
He added, “There is no commission or additional fee, above the price of refueling via electronic cards,” noting that “the application of electronic cash dealing will completely eliminate the phenomenon of “tipping” that some gas station workers receive from vehicle owners, given that The financial account for supplying fuel to vehicle owners will go directly to the bank account and then to the account of the distribution company.”
He continued, “The company is continuing education campaigns to urge vehicle owners to obtain electronic payment cards.”
The Ministry of Oil confirmed last month that the Petroleum Products Distribution Company would adopt electronic payment systems at all gas stations, starting from the beginning of next year.
The Ministry explained in a statement, “In line with government directives, the Ministry of Oil decided that the Petroleum Products Distribution Company will adopt electronic payment systems at all stations, and suspend cash dealing as of January 1, 2024.”
