WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump has said he hopes a peaceful solution to the DPRK nuclear issue will be found and he refuses to comment on a possible strike on North Korea.
"I do not want to talk about what I'm doing or thinking about," Trump said in an interview with Fox News. "I will not act like the previous administrations, which were declaring" we will do so within 44 weeks. "This is futile and I hope the problem will be solved peacefully.
Trump pointed out that North Korea was able to deceive former President Barack Obama and win it.
Asked if Pyongyang had carried out a routine missile launch, he said: "We will see."
The tension returned to the Korean Peninsula at the beginning of last year, when North Korea conducted a nuclear test and then fired a ballistic missile with a satellite. In September 2016, North Korea conducted another nuclear test. In addition, around 20 missile tests were carried out during the year. On March 6, Pyongyang launched four ballistic missiles that fell within Japan's exclusive economic zone.
The next day, the US Forces Command in South Korea announced the start of deployment of the air defense and missile defense system within South Korea despite objections from Russia and China.
