US travel ban begins and Trump administration excludes hijackers

    Date of release: 2017/6/30

US President Donald Trump's administration introduced an amendment late on Thursday with the entry into force of the travel ban to the United States after its review, saying the abductees would be considered close family members and would be allowed to enter.
A State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the ministry concluded that "after further review, the abductees will now be considered close family members."
The Trump administration earlier decided, based on its interpretation of a US Supreme Court ruling, that grandparents, grandchildren and hijackers traveling from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen would be denied entry visas to the United States as the ban came into effect.
The 90-day travel ban, which came into force at 8 pm EDT and a 120-day ban on all refugees, continued.
On Monday, the Supreme Court revoked parts of the Trump decision to ban the travel of citizens of the six Muslim-majority countries, thereby limiting the scope of lower court decisions, suspending parts of the Executive Order of 6 March and allowing the temporary ban imposed on people who do not have close ties with the states United Nations.
A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the ministry would provide guidance to ensure that the abductees would not be barred from obtaining visas throughout the ban.
The Supreme Court lifted the ban on travelers and refugees who have "close ties" with a person or entity in the United States. For example, the court said those with "close family ties" with anyone in the United States would be exempted from the ban.
