The Iraqi Council for Peace and Solidarity warned against the amendment of the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 in accordance with a "sectarian mentality." He pointed out that the dictatorial regime was working on emptying the law of its content and distorting its texts with political amendments. He stressed that some contemporary parties are trying to undermine the independence of the judiciary by reinforcing the sub- Of the Civil Code.
