    [ltr]Follow up of Mawazine News[/ltr]
[ltr]Following the emergency meeting of the Arab League's foreign ministers on Sunday, the Arab League's final statement stressed the need to seek a Security Council resolution that affirms that America's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel contradicts the resolutions of international legitimacy.[/ltr]
[ltr]Arab foreign ministers called on the United States to rescind the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to join the international community in its demand for the return of Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied in the June 1967 war.[/ltr]
[ltr]They said the US decision on Jerusalem "undermines efforts to achieve peace, deepens tensions, inflames anger and threatens to plunge the region into an abyss of further violence, chaos, bloodshed and instability."[/ltr]
[ltr]The statement added that the ministers affirm the rejection and condemnation of the American decision as a "null and void decision and a serious breach of international law and relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions."[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump announced last Wednesday his country's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and said the US embassy would be transferred to the city from Tel Aviv. The decision angered Arabs and America's allies around the world.[/ltr]
[ltr]The statement described Trump's decision as "a dangerous development in which the United States has placed itself in a position of bias to the occupation and in violation of international laws and resolutions, and thus has isolated itself as a mediator and mediator in the peace process."[/ltr]
[ltr]The Council of Foreign Ministers stressed in its statement that East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state that "security, stability and peace in the region will only be achieved through its independent and sovereign independence on the lines of June 4, 1967 in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative."[/ltr]
[ltr]Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit told a news conference in response to a question about the possibility of canceling the Arab peace initiative, saying that if the Arabs tried to pull it out "as if they were shooting themselves, there is no alternative."[/ltr]
[ltr]The foreign ministers warned that "tampering with Jerusalem, attempts to change its legal and historical status and continuing attempts by Israel - the occupying power - to change the Arab identity of the city and attack its Islamic and Christian sanctities is a provocation to the feelings of Muslims and Christians throughout the Arab and Islamic worlds."[/ltr]
[ltr]The ministers called on the United States to rescind its decision, saying in a statement that they "demand that the United States cancel its decision on Jerusalem and work with the international community to compel Israel to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy and end its occupation of all Palestinian and Arab territories occupied since 4 June 1967 through a peaceful solution that guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state East Jerusalem is an irreplaceable way to end the conflict. "[/ltr]
[ltr]They called on various countries to recognize the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Foreign Ministers also decided to hold another meeting, not later than one month from now, "to assess the situation and agree on future steps in the light of developments, including the convening of an extraordinary Arab summit in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan"[/ltr]
