KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid al-Jarallah said today that Iraq has resumed paying Kuwaiti compensation
As a result of the invasion in 1990 and began a month ago to pay the premiums.
"The compensation will be paid in cash in accordance with an agreement under the umbrella of the UN program until the end of 2021," Jarallah told reporters after participating in the ceremony of the Indian embassy in the country on the occasion of its national holiday.

The United Nations Compensation Commission announced that "the rate of payments from the Iraqi Fund for compensation to Kuwait will increase annually until 2021."
The Iraqi government suspended payments from the Fund in November 2014 due to security challenges and difficulties Iraq faced in its budget following the invasion of several cities.

KUWAIT: Iraq resumes compensation for invasion

Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled al-Jarallah said on Thursday that Iraq has resumed payment of Kuwaiti compensation because of the invasion in 1990, noting that "the Iraqi government began a month ago to pay the premiums incurred."

"Iraq has begun to pay the installments resulting from the compensation," he said, adding that the compensation would be paid in cash under an agreement under the umbrella of the United Nations program until the end of 2021.

On the property of Kuwaitis in Iraq, the Kuwaiti official explained that "the property of citizens is present and preserved and is established and there is contact with the brothers in Iraq on enabling Kuwait to dispose of its property."

The United Nations Compensation Commission has announced earlier that the rate of payments from the Iraqi fund for compensation to Kuwait will increase annually until 2021, where payments were stopped from the Fund in 2014 because of the security challenges and difficulties faced by Iraq in its budget after the war against Da'ash.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Jarallah said Wednesday that Iraq had resumed paying Kuwaiti compensation in the wake of the 1990 Iraqi-Kuwaiti war, which began a month ago.
