Nujaifi said in a press statement, "The decision of the verdict issued by my right, is only the liquidation of political accounts behind the same bodies that accused me of helping in the fall of Mosul, however.
"Judicial confrontation is the best way to prove my innocence from all the charges I have been given," he said.
Al-Nujaifi considered his presence in Iraq proof that he was not involved in corruption or money-laundering cases, noting that he will pay all his innocence documents during the appeal.
The judiciary issued a decision to imprison the former governor of Nineveh, Athil Nujaifi three years and prevent him from travel and the seizure of his funds, according to the provisions of Article 329 of the Penal Code.

Former governor of Nineveh province, Athil al-Nujaifi, announced that he will appeal against his decision in absentia on charges of economic crimes, money laundering, three-year imprisonment and the confiscation of his money.
