    Information / Baghdad ..
Belgian government has decided to cancel an agreement signed nearly half a century ago by Saudi interests to run the Grand Mosque in Brussels, Belgian Justice Minister Kon Gains said.
The Belgian government is responding to one of a series of recommendations issued by the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee, which was set up in the wake of the March 22, 2016 attacks, which were adopted by a "populist" and killed 32 people in Brussels.
The Brussels Grand Mosque, located in a large public park in the center of the European Quarter, is symbolic of Islam in Belgium.
But the parliamentary commission concluded in its October findings that the institution was promoting Islam as a "Wahhabi Salafi" that could "play a very large role in violent extremism."
The Belgian Minister of Justice said that activating the decision "to cancel the long-term lease agreement with the Islamic and Cultural Center in Belgium (ie, the Great Mosque in Brussels) of the Islamic World League" associated with the ruling family in Saudi Arabia.
The agreement, which was signed in June 1969, stipulates that the rent will continue for 99 years.
Belgium's cultural and Islamic center has been given a one-year period to vacate the building, creating a "new structure that brings together the executive body of Belgium's Muslims and a local community" to take over.
The justice minister said the government hoped to achieve "pluralism and transparency" within the Grand Mosque, which would have to "seek recognition" by the state and "respect the laws and traditions of our country, which bear a tolerant view of Islam."
"In addition to the building dedicated to worship, the compound will also include the administration of the executive body of the Muslims of Belgium," he said, adding that "it is planned to rehabilitate its imams or establish a center to showcase the achievements of the Islamic civilization in a wider cultural framework." Ending / 25
