Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that the eastern Ghouta, a suburb of the Syrian capital Damascus, will soon begin to return to normal life, as is happening now in Aleppo.
"There are places that have been cleansed of the militants, one of the last terrorist strongholds," Zakharova said in an interview with Russia's Channel 5, quoting excerpts from them. "There are clear developments recorded by the United Nations and humanitarian organizations alike, In the liberation of the city, and in the little town of Ghouta, on the road to Aleppo, there were only a few. There were between 100 and 200,000 people (to al-Ghouta). This number is less than the number of people who lived there in the past, but this is considered an indicator. Life, in fact, is returning to normal. "
The head of the operations room of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Sergei Rodzkoy, told reporters Friday that about 40,000 civilians from the eastern Ghouta have returned to their homes in areas liberated from armed groups.
