[ltr]The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against 3 Venezuelan nationals and a number of companies, which it said were involved in drug trafficking.[/ltr]
[ltr]A statement by the ministry said 20 companies were listed on the sanctions list, including 16 companies registered in Venezuela and 4 in Panama.[/ltr]
[ltr]In a related context, US Vice President Mike Bens said in a speech addressed to the Organization of American States, that the new US sanctions targeting prominent drug traffickers, linked to the Venezuelan government, he said.[/ltr]
[ltr]Pens called on the Organization of American States (OAS) to expel Venezuela from the organization and appealed to Venezuela's neighbors to take action against Caracas, including restrictions on visas for Venezuelan officials, in order to "hold" Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.[/ltr]
[ltr]Bens also called on the Venezuelan president to postpone the presidential election scheduled for May 20, claiming it would be "fraudulent."[/ltr]
