(Reuters) - Iran has a three-year plan to rehabilitate the electricity sector in Iraq, Energy Minister Reza Ardkanian said on Tuesday.

The minister of energy told Tasnim that Iran has provided the possibility of exchanging energy with all neighboring countries, saying that "the example of this is the third transmission line that is being established now with Armenia, we seek to complete before the end of this year in order to increase the capacity of energy exchange" .

"Iran has called on local and foreign investors to invest in the region," he said. "We have a vast deserts, a very suitable source of power generation and we are prepared to put our transport network at the disposal of investors.

"There are no competitors in this area, because neighboring countries that import electricity from Iran have no better choice than Iran," he said.

"We intend to implement a major role in the rehabilitation of the Iraqi electricity sector through a plan over three years, an agreement was signed with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity during his last visit to Tehran and the extension of the export of electricity to Iraq was extended for another year," he said.

On the debts of Iraq, the Minister of Energy said, "We have over the past years exported electricity to Iraq worth more than 6 billion dollars, where more than $ 5 billion has been paid, and appropriate arrangements have been made to pay the remaining amount and there will be no problem in this regard."
