"Iranian brotherly attitude towards Iraq will not be forgotten, and our relationship with Baghdad can not be compared to the relations of this country with the occupiers of Kamrika," Iranian President Hassan Rowhani told reporters at Tehran airport before heading to Baghdad.
"Iran has a lot of needs to provide from Iraq, and we have important plans during this visit. For us, the issue of transits is of particular interest, and we are keen to develop transportation routes between Iran and Iraq," Rowhani said.
Referring to the interest in launching Iranian railways with Iraq, he said: "This could be in the interest of both countries and visitors."
"The construction of industrial facilities is of interest to both sides; the issue of the environment and dust is one of the issues on which joint measures can be taken," he stressed.
"The businessmen will be in this visit, we will hold an economic meeting and we will also meet tribal leaders and politicians in Iraq," Rowhani said.
"We hope that this visit will benefit the people of Iran and develop relations between the two countries and will hold effective talks in all areas of health, trade, investment, transport, tourism and security," he said.
"Perhaps the Westerners do not understand that one of the aspirations of the Iraqi people is to visit Mashhad, and one of the aspirations of the Iranian people to travel to Karbala. This is the love we are seeing today," he said, adding that " And Iraqis are traveling each year to each other, indicating their proximity to both countries. "
Referring to the disputed US actions in the region, he said that "Americans are always trying to convince Iran to protect their interests and maintain a Zionist usurper regime and create differences between countries in the region, including Iraq."
"Today, the value of our economic relations with Iraq is about $ 12 billion, while we can easily increase this figure to $ 20 billion in the coming years," he said, noting that "Iran and Iraq provide many of their needs from each other."
Referring to future and current projects between the two countries, Rohani said, "In the transit area, we are interested in linking Iran's national railways with Iraq. We are also keen to start working on the basis of the 1975 Algiers Agreement as soon as possible, because today only small and medium- But if the expansion is carried out from the river, it will be possible to pass vessels more than 20 thousand tons. "
Rowhani also pointed to his accompanying delegation of Iranian businessmen in the visit, expressing the hope that "the achievements of the trip to Iraq will benefit the two countries and expand relations between them."
