The governor of Baghdad, Falah al-Jazairi, on Wednesday, stressed the importance of eradicating illegal landfill sites in the capital, indicating the presence of tons of waste on a daily basis.
"The local government emphasizes the interest in the environment and its cleanness and activating waste recycling plants, which is a priority of our work," Al-Jazaheri told Asharq Al-Awsat, adding that "it is our priority to bring it back to life."
"We have more than 900 tons of waste, which is a large number and an economic resource that can benefit from these outputs, whether fertilizer, metal or paper," he said.
He stressed the importance of encouraging citizens to maintain a clean and beautiful environment through cooperation between citizens and the state, in order to eliminate the illegal health regulations and the establishment of fundamentalist and legal systems.
