Shafak News / Basra Governorate Council decided to confirm its previous decision to move the province to a territory, to "protect the city from the abhorrent center."
"More than 20 members of the council signed a request to turn Basra into a territory with an absolute majority, while 12 signatures are required," provincial council head Sabah al-Bazzouni said in a statement.
He added that "the request was submitted to the Legal Department in the Council to take the necessary action, including the establishment of legal proceedings, especially that the Council has already taken similar procedures to refer the request to establish the province to the Electoral Commission."
