The head of the parliamentary committee on women and family, Haifa Al-Amin, on Saturday suspended the parliamentary movement aimed at removing her from the chairmanship of the parliamentary committee.
Al-Amin told Ashqaf News that "no one can remove me from the chairmanship of the parliamentary women's committee. This is one of the exclusive powers of the committee, which elected Haifa al-Amin by an absolute majority."
She pointed out that "the parliamentary women's committee is the only one who will re-issue the vote on the dismissal of Haifa Al-Amin or not, and the House of Representatives has no authority in that, but it is the competence of members of the Committee exclusively."
On Saturday, the committee elected deputy Haifa al-Amin as its president. A member of parliament from the alliance of "Sason" supported by the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr had caused a wave of anger on the social networking sites after describing the people of southern Iraq as "backward".
Al-Amin said in a press statement that her words were misinterpreted when she spoke two days ago at a dialogue seminar held in the Lebanese capital Beirut, pointing out that Lebanon is civilized and urbanized.
