[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]A report by the Independent newspaper shed light on the progress achieved by the protests in Iraq, but said that the militia weapon is still out of control, and the report stated:
Despite the limited results achieved politically, by unanimous observers, the scars left by the Iraqi protest movement in the body of the political process may not be gone soon, but some expect that they have established, perhaps, new rules of work, the main players will have to take into account If they wanted to stay in the game.
Abandoning Abdul-Mahdi is not a requirement
When the prominent activist in the Iraqi movement, the pharmacist Alaa al-Rikabi, nominated himself to head the new government, succeeding the resigned Adel Abdel Mahdi, with the aim of cutting the road on Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi towards the formation of the ministry, he was criticized by some of his closest relatives, on the grounds that the demonstrations did not target the acquisition On government positions, but rather wanted to correct the warp of the political process, which was dominated by corrupt parties, so Abd al-Mahdi’s resignation under the pressure of the street, which some activists see as a win-win, in which others find circumvention of the main demands of “the restoration of the homeland” from the hands of the components of the class H Akkam, who chose to put the country in Iranian hands.
Elections and militia weapons
And many put the decisions of Parliament to form a new commission, exclusively from judges, to supervise the elections and legislate a new electoral law according to the formula of multiple districts for one governorate, within the basket of the movement’s gains that started in early October 2019, as they are essential prerequisites to ensure a vote Nazih comes with a parliament that represents the street, not parties. But even this gain, according to others, is formal, as long as the elections themselves are held under the control of the loose weapons that the pro-Iranian militias possess, which means that they will be in control in the form of the next parliament.
"There is no value to any electoral laws, unless mechanisms are preceded by the disarmament of parties and the dropping of their seats, if their arms, labor, or financing from abroad are proven," said prominent political activist Muhannad Al-Kinani, who has presented himself as a candidate for the presidency of an interim government in Iraq.
Other forms of "victories"
Researchers and writers discuss other forms of the “victories of the October Revolution,” as they like to call them, including breaking many of the barriers that have existed for several years between the street and some of the pillars of the political class that it claims to represent, especially those that wear religious clothing, similar to Leading Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr.
Sadr was one of the most prominent supporters of the popular movement against the ruling political class, but he turned on the street, after the killing of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Organization, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, at the hands of the Americans, in a raid targeting the convoy carrying them inside. Baghdad airport, early this year, and instead of urging its supporters to support the protesters who are fighting the militia fire with bare breasts, they were asked to rally away from known protest spaces, to condemn the American forces, and to ask the parliament and government to expel them from Iraq immediately.
The protesters read about the transformation of Al-Sadr, desiring to prevail in the Iraqi arena, after the influence of two of his most prominent rivals disappeared, far from the slogans of sovereignty and independence raised by his supporters, and none of them added to their famous slogan "Iran by land", which explicitly calls for an end to hegemony Iranian on the Iraqi political decision, the phrase "America by land", to tell the leader of the Sadrist movement that they are no less patriotic than him, regarding the sovereignty of the state.
Media and activist Saadoun Mohsen Damad held Al-Sadr and his movement "historic, moral and patriotic responsibility for the coup d'etat and stabbed the protests from the inside," accusing them of standing alongside "corrupt, traitorous gangs that have exhausted people, lost the rights of the poor, and sold the country to the foreigner."
Chest Challenge
It was clear that the demonstrators angered al-Sadr a lot by violating his desire to differentiate between the American and Iranian roles in Iraq, so he rained them with a series of attacks, including that some of them were agents of the United States, and that others turned the protest arenas into a "hotbed of immorality and immorality", criticizing the participation of women in mixed demonstrations.
Al-Sadr’s attack only fueled the enthusiasm of the protesters, and pushed them to destroy the Sadrist domination of the street and its unique ability to mobilize the protesters. After the withdrawal of the Sadrist movement from the squares, the human crowds continued to flow to the squares week after week, which gave the protest movement a status of independence with distinction, and clearly distinguished it On the political currents of a popular nature.
Some protesters went further than challenging al-Sadr, when they spoke of the continuous advocacy they receive from the Shiite cleric Ali al-Sistani, which would not have survived had it not been for their perseverance to stand up to the government machine of repression, which has killed hundreds and thousands of wounded among them.
From protest to national coordination
Researchers and writers, like Alaa Al Lami, are trying to develop a form of popular protest, to a kind of political action, to ensure that the desired change is achieved, when the opportunity arises, with democratic tools. People’s councils are elected in the governorates, and these councils produce leadership at the national level. ”He added,“ Many hesitated and the project was delayed a lot, and I think that the solution now is to return to it or its like. .
However, Lami calls for "differentiating between the issue of finding a political organization for the uprising in the form of a political party. This is not the task of the uprising because it is a broad popular social movement and the party requires harmony and agreement on a partisan political program, and between the political and organizational leadership bodies to lead an uprising that includes all the powers, parties and unions that may arise. Pointing out that "the difference between the two is very big ... The important thing now is that awareness of this problem has started to widen and deepen, and it is a great hope that it will yield something soon."
He continued, "The important and necessary move now is the transition from hope to work to embody hope," stressing that "the October and the Levant uprising is alive and victorious, and its victory is surely its ally. The size of the sacrifices and the fine blood that has been made can never be wasted."
