Yesterday, Monday, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, signed the decree to hold early elections on October 10, and called on the relevant institutions to work to achieve their integrity. Saleh said in a word he followed (term),
"The upcoming elections are important, decisive, and constitutive, and they come after a popular uprising movement demanding reform and correcting the tracks." He added, "Securing the right of Iraqis to choose their representatives away from pressure, blackmail and stealing their voices is a top priority, to get out of the sediments and accumulations of the previous stages."
Saleh called for "preparing for the elections, participating seriously and expressing free will," and considered "the elections an opportunity to fulfill the aspirations of the noble people." He stressed the need for "our electoral votes to be decisive and resolute in confirming the transition in Iraq to a stage in which it is more advanced, fair, stable and independent."
The President of the Republic stated that "the concerned state institutions are called to accelerate the fulfillment of the requirements for holding fair elections." And he called for the removal of "the concerns and doubts that were a major reason for the reluctance of not a few citizens from the previous elections" He believed, "It is imperative to create the political climate required to alleviate suffering and achieve justice in choosing strong legislative and executive powers capable of maintaining sovereignty, preserving the state and its prestige, and establishing justice among citizens." Saleh stressed, "The need for effective and serious work and coordination between the United Nations and the Election Commission to secure international oversight and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in a way that contributes to its success, and in a way that guarantees sovereignty and respect for the independent decision of the Iraqis." And he continues, "The elections will take place in circumstances that we appreciate and appreciate inevitably their difficulties, from the Corona pandemic and the security challenge in confronting terrorism and outlaws." Saleh went on to rely on "the drive of our security services and the awareness of our people to take responsibility in preserving the security of elections and voters." It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers had previously taken a decision to hold early elections on the tenth of next October, while the House of Representatives decided to dissolve itself three days before that date.
