{Umniah: Al Furat News} The Turkish strategic expert, Javad Gok, ruled out that Turkey would obtain Iraq's approval to establish a new military base in the north of the country.

"The Turkish government does not care about the approval of Iraq, but applies international law in defense of its security," Gok said in a press statement. "From our previous experiences, we did not obtain its consent to establish a base in Bashiqa (in Nineveh Governorate) or other military bases in other regions."
He emphasized, "We are establishing military bases without the approval of the Iraqi government."
"The differences between Turkey and armed factions focus on the Sinjar region," he added, adding that these factions do not want Turkish forces to be present in Sinjar, and for this reason Turkey will maintain its bases and military forces.
And Turkish media reported that Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said during a closed meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey, last Friday, that Ankara will proceed with its military operations near its borders in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
The minister stressed the strategic importance of the Matina area in Dohuk Governorate in Iraqi Kurdistan. He said, "Just as we did in Syria, we will set up bases and control the region."
"This area is a road to Qandil (the stronghold of the PKK), and we will control this line," Soylu said, referring to the mountainous region in northern Iraq where the PKK militants are stationed.
On Sunday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar inspected one of his country's bases in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff and the commander of the ground forces, according to the Anadolu news agency.
The Turkish army often carries out strikes by warplanes and drones inside Iraq, and also sends ground forces to its military sites in the Kurdistan region to carry out attacks against the party's sites. Baghdad condemned these operations, which Ankara did not coordinate with the central government, as a violation of Iraq's sovereignty.
Iraq has previously demanded Turkey to end its military activities on its soil, but Turkey accuses its neighbor of tolerating the presence of the PKK on its territory, and refuses to end its cross-border attacks.
