Professor in Turkish analysis, Talha Kose, saw today, Friday, that his country's foreign policy priorities are related to Iraq and Syria, suggesting that a president other than Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not be able to move forward with the same mediation that Ankara is doing in the Ukrainian-Russian war.
The Polish TVB channel quoted Professor Talha, from the Turkish Analysis Center, SITA, as saying: "If Erdogan is re-elected, he will continue the policy of mediation in the war in Ukraine, where he enjoys the confidence of both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin," noting that "another Turkish president will not have the same credibility and personal relations to define Turkey's role in the Ukrainian conflict."
The Polish channel quoted Onal Civikoz, a foreign policy advisor to opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, as saying that "the opposition candidate will continue the mediation mission between Ukraine and Russia," adding that "if Kilicdaroglu wins the Turkish elections, he will confirm through talks with Moscow the fact of Turkey's membership." in NATO, but with balanced relations.”
However, Professor Talha said that Erdogan "is clear regarding his policy towards Ukraine, he supports its territorial integrity, but he also needs constructive relations with Moscow, which cannot be ignored while expecting a solution to this issue."
On the priorities of Turkey's foreign policy, Talha said that the priorities since 2015 are security issues, and that one of its main tasks is to neutralize terrorist groups that threaten Turkey, such as the Kurdistan Workers' Party, the People's Protection Units, or ISIS , and to establish a buffer zone around the country's borders.
"Ankara's foreign policy towards the West aims to focus on strengthening bilateral relations with Germany and Britain," the Turkish researcher added, noting that relations with Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria are already strong.
However, strengthening bilateral relations between Ankara and these countries does not lead to better relations with the European Union, which Talha said "has no interest or desire to include Turkey in its ranks."
