    {Local: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Water Resources announced a visit by a delegation headed by Minister Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani to Turkey today, to discuss water quotas and their division between Iraq and Turkey.

    "A delegation headed by Al-Hamdani and the membership of general managers in the ministry, as well as a group from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will visit Turkey," the Director-General of the Center for Engineering Studies and Designs in the ministry, Hanan Hussein, said in a press statement.
    She pointed out that the negotiations during this visit will be about "the division of water between the two countries, Turkey and Iraq, the water scarcity at the present time, and how to avoid the problem of Turkish water releases."
    Prior to this visit, "meetings" were held with the Turkish ambassador and the Ministry of Water Resources, according to the Director-General, stressing that the results would be "good" in favor of Iraq, revealing a "new agreement", which would be concluded during the visit regarding the water file.
    And in a previous statement to the Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, in which he stressed, "Turkey is dealing with the issue of sharing water with downstream countries, and there is a major change in their policy towards Iraq, and we sensed this real will through the visit of the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister, all of which are indications." On the ground, we are getting results and they are now announced."
    Iraq is about to "establish a joint research center with the Turkish side in Baghdad," according to the minister, pointing to "the Turkish side's approval that the center's headquarters be in Baghdad."
    Al-Hamdani conveyed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's emphasis on "the necessity of sharing water," noting that "the term (water sharing) was forbidden in Turkey, and now it is available."
