    {Economic: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Electricity signed, on Thursday, in the conference hall at the ministry's headquarters, a contract with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to implement the draft agreement to connect the electrical grid and sell energy between the two countries.

    The ministry stated in a statement that {Al-Furat News} received a copy, that “the contract was concluded in the presence of the representative of the Minister, Undersecretary for Production Affairs, Adel Karim, and the Jordanian Minister of Energy Hala Zawati. And the Jordanian ambassador in Baghdad, while the contract was signed by the Director General of the General Electricity Transmission Company for the Central Region, Barak Saad Nour Al-Shamrti on the Iraqi side, and the Director General of the National Electricity Company, Amjad Al-Rawashdeh on the Jordanian side.
    And she added, "The contract included providing Jordan to the Iraqi side, in the first phase of the project, with a capacity of (150) megawatts, after completing the interconnection network between the two countries, followed by the second phase, which allows both sides to raise the capacity of electrical energy exchange."
    The agent stressed that "the ministry is interested in establishing this linking line because of its importance in the stability of the national system and the exchange of benefit between neighboring countries, including Iraq, and making it a corridor for the transmission of energy, and the electrical linkage agreements will enhance Arab economic integration."
    For her part, Zawati indicated, after the signing, "the importance of the (Jordanian-Iraqi) connection in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the context of Jordan's aspiration to connect with neighboring countries for the purposes of electrical energy exchange, which will contribute to the stability of electrical systems, and that the importance of the contract and its comprehensive strategic objectives for the energy sector are that Iraq and Jordan will be A regional center for the exchange of energy in all its forms.
    And she added, "The Jordanian National Electric Power Company will start the project with the executing company at the end of this year, provided that we will reach high productivity next summer, provided that the connection between the two countries is ready."
