Al-Sadr's visit to Baghdad confirmed the removal of the coordination framework from the government

Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
It is expected that the President of the Republic, immediately after his election to the House of Representatives, will assign the Sadrist bloc to present its candidate for the post of prime minister.
These data were revealed by the visit of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to Baghdad at the end of last week, and his failure to reach an agreement with the coordination framework that insists on the entry of all its forces into the government.
Other blocs may join the Sadr-led coalition in forming a majority government, in addition to the Advance and Azm blocs and the Kurdistan Democratic Party. As for the position in the coordination framework, it has become clear either by going to the opposition or boycotting, but a deputy from the Sadiqoun bloc, the political representative of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, is still talking about the continuation of dialogues, and in the event of their failure, the opposition’s option is the closest.
Political analyst Ziad al-Arar said, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the visit of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to Baghdad at the end of last week was intended to put direct touches between his movement and the coordination framework regarding the formation of the government."
Al-Arar continued, "The data showed that the visit did not bear fruitful results for both the coordination framework on the one hand and the Sadrist movement on the other hand, and the media focus was limited to some of Sadr's religious tours."
He pointed out, "The information that was leaked about the visit is that meetings have taken place with some political forces, whether from the losing parties in the elections or from other components, Sunni and Kurdish." Al-Arar spoke of “a great discrepancy in the positions between the two sides of the political process within the Shiite component, with the Sadrist movement’s insistence that specific parties not participate in the next government, and in return for that came the position of the coordination framework that it would not participate in a government without the presence of all the forces represented in it.”
He explained, "Al-Sadr is continuing to form a national political majority government with his original partners, the Progress Alliance and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as well as the Azm Alliance."
Al-Arar expected, "other political forces to join this coalition, which is currently described as the largest in parliament, in order to elect the president of the republic, who will assign the Sadrist bloc to present its candidate to form the government," and it is likely that "the prime minister's assignment will be on the same day as the president's election."
In the event that the coordination framework continues to refuse the entry of part of it into the government while the other remains, Al-Arar comments, “In this case, the framework will have two options: either taking the opposition’s position, or boycotting, and in both situations we will witness strong monitoring of the executive performance of the next government.”
Al-Arar concluded, “The Sadrist movement, regardless of the position of the coordination framework, whether in the boycott or the opposition, is proceeding to achieve its project by forming the government on correct national and legal bases, as a popular demand advocated by the demonstrators, and as a result of which the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi was changed and early elections were held.”
The head of the Sadrist bloc, Hassan al-Adhari, had once again confirmed the current's position to form a government of the national majority, and said that it was the best way to eliminate terrorism and uncontrolled weapons.
For his part, the deputy from the Sadiqoun bloc, Ali Turki, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "the meetings between the forces of the Coordination Framework and the Sadrist Movement have not been interrupted during the past period."
Turki added, "A new awareness has begun to emerge due to the challenges that the country has faced over the past two weeks, which can be relied upon to bridge the current rift."
He pointed out, "The demand of the political majority is legitimate and legal and cannot be objected to, but in light of the changes and risks that have begun to be reflected in the situation of the Shiite, Kurdish and Sunni components, everyone should put the national interest above all considerations."
Turki pointed out that "the continuation of the differences has begun to give a feeling to the simple citizen that they will reflect on the economic or service situation as well as the security."
And he stated, "A positive thing that can be clearly observed is the leaders' sense that their differences were the reason for what is happening now, and they also began to realize that they will also be the reason for what is happening in the future if they do not put their differences aside."
Turki stressed, "The meetings and dialogues between the two sides, the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement, have begun to take a positive aspect through which we can reach a solution to the crisis."
And he added, "The Sadrist movement seemed today more open than it was in the past, when it accepted to enter with the coordination framework in a government with the exception of a certain person, a condition that can be removed by continuing the dialogue in the coming period."
Turki added, "The coordination framework will continue in the efforts of dialogue until the last moments, and if it does not reach an agreement, it will go to the opposition. As for the issue of boycotting, this is an unlikely option."
The House of Representatives has set the seventh of next month as the date for electing the President of the Republic, who must assign the candidate of the most numerous bloc to form the government within 15 days of his election.
