An Iranian website quoted an official of the Revolutionary Guards: We are the ones who bombed the Turkish forces in Iraq
The site said that it obtained an audio recording attributed to Mahdi Taeb, head of the "Ammar" headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards, in which the latter said: We are the ones who bombed the Turkish military forces in Iraq.
This comes at a time when the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) talked about the existence of coordination between the Iraqi militias loyal to Iran and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) against the Turkish forces deployed in Iraq and Syria.
A report issued by the Pentagon’s Inspector General regarding the developments of Operation Inherent Resolve during the period between January 1 and March 31, 2022, indicated that “the militias loyal to Iran have intensified the pace of their attacks on Turkish forces in Iraq and Syria.”
The report stated that these Iraqi armed militias during the first quarter of this year targeted military bases of the Turkish army in Iraq, adding that these attacks in some cases came in coordination with the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
The report states that "prominent militias" are increasingly expressing opposition to the actions of the Turkish army and have launched missile attacks on Turkish military bases in Iraq and Syria.
In this regard, the report pointed to an attack on a Turkish base north of Mosul, after air strikes launched by Ankara on PKK sites in northern Iraq last February.
According to the report, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) of the Pentagon came to the conclusion that “these militias may continue to coordinate with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in their response to the air and drone attacks” launched by Turkey on PKK sites.
According to DIA assessments, the pro-Iranian Iraqi militias believe that their attacks against Turkey will “deter” Ankara from attacking workers’ positions inside Iraq and will enhance its image as defenders of Iraq’s sovereignty.
