Dialogues are continuing between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan over the position of President of the Republic, in the hope of reaching a single candidate to be voted on by the State Forces Alliance in Parliament.
The deputy of the coordination framework, Ahmed Al-Asadi, said that “the formation of the government depends on the election of the president of the republic.”
Al-Asadi continued, "Dialogues are continuing between the two Kurdish parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and there is support from the State Administration Alliance for these two parties in order to address this problem."
He pointed out, "The Kurds have two options, either to agree on one candidate to be voted on in Parliament, or for each party to enter its candidate, as happened in 2018."
Al-Asadi stressed, "The coordinating framework is ready through his candidate, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, to form the government, and there is a ministerial service platform that has been presented to all political blocs and was accepted by them."
For her part, the representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Suzan Mansour, stated that "our dialogues with the Kurdistan Democratic Party are continuing regarding the agreement on the position of the President of the Republic."
Mansour continued, "There are many common points that we are discussing, and we have resolved many issues, and we are waiting to agree on the position of President of the Republic."
She explained, "Both of the Kurdish parties adhere to their candidate, whether the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which wants a second term for Barham Salih, or the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which presented Reber Ahmed Khaled as a candidate for the position as well."
In addition, Kurdistan Democratic Party MP Shirwan Al-Dobardani confirmed that "the dialogues are continuing, but we are committed to the nomination of Reber Ahmed Khaled for the position."
Al-Dobardani stated, "Our obtaining the position comes from being the first place holder in the recent elections in the Kurdistan region."
He expressed his hope that "the dialogues that are currently taking place will reach one candidate who is supported by the State Administration Coalition to vote on him.
