China announces a visit to the volume of trade exchange with Iraq and looks forward to strengthening its activity in the Kurdistan Region
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, the Chinese ambassador to Baghdad, Cui Wei, announced a visit to the volume of trade exchange with Iraq, and while he stressed the keenness to cooperate with the new Iraqi government, he offered condolences over the accident of the tanker explosion in the banks area in Baghdad.
The Chinese ambassador in Baghdad, Cui Wei, said during a press conference attended by Shafak News Agency correspondent, that "the business of Chinese companies in Iraq during the last ten years has increased significantly, and that the State of Iraq is a priority on the Chinese side."
He explained that "Iraq is an important partner for China, and the volume of trade exchange between the two countries since the beginning of the year amounted to 33.7 billion US dollars, an increase of 2% over last year."
Wei added, "China imported from Iraq 34 million tons of crude oil, with a value of 6.5 billion dollars."
The Chinese ambassador pointed out that "Iraq is the largest country for the Chinese side in terms of contracts and the second partner in terms of crude oil and the volume of trade exchange."
Regarding investment projects in the Kurdistan Region, the Chinese ambassador said, "Months ago, I visited the region and met with officials and companies and listened to ideas," stressing that "Chinese companies are very active in the Kurdistan Region."
He said, "Iraq is an important and cooperative partner for building the Silk Belt Road, and that the Belt Initiative includes all aspects of infrastructure, trade and cultural exchange," noting that "the lack of cooperation in building the Faw port does not affect our relationship with Iraq and work on the Silk Road project."
He explained that "Chinese companies participated in the tenders for the Al-Faw port project, but the Iraqi government handed over the project to a Korean company, and we understand that."
In response to a question from our correspondent, the Chinese ambassador stressed that "cooperation between China and Iraq in the field of energy is one of the important fields, and that Chinese companies working in the oil field are working to extract oil naturally from Iraqi fields," noting that "China is keen to help Iraq in Extracting more crude oil, and that oil and energy are among the important aspects of Iraq, and this will help in the reconstruction of Iraq."
The Chinese ambassador stressed "the necessity of developing a prior plan in the field of renewable energy," adding, "After the formation of the new Iraqi government, we will meet with officials to discuss the issue of Iraqi energy."
