The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, discussed with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, today, Wednesday, important files, most notably the provincial council elections.
A statement from Al-Sudani's media office, received by Al-Eqtisad News, stated that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' Al-Sudani "received, today, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert."
He added, "The meeting discussed cooperation relations between Iraq and the UN mission, reviewed the independent strategy for the mission's work in Iraq, and discussed joint programs and projects implemented by the mission in a number of regions of Iraq, in addition to following up on the efforts and preparations made for the success of the provincial council elections scheduled for next December."
The statement continued: "The meeting also witnessed a review of Iraq's efforts to address the issue of the displaced, and their voluntary return to their areas of residence after providing the necessary atmosphere that supports their stability and reintegration into society, as well as a discussion of Iraq's efforts to confront climate challenges, and its measures to address the drought problem."
