{Local: Al-Furat News} The Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee announced its support for the Ministry of Electricity in activating collection and installing smart meters to achieve stability in supply and prevent energy waste.
Committee member Baqir Al-Saadi told Al-Furat News Agency, “The initiative of the Minister of Electricity to establish electricity meters for every home and to collect levied amounts is to achieve stability in electrical energy.”
He pointed out that "there are large random areas that take power from neighboring areas, which causes several technical problems."
Al-Saadi continued, "A services committee met with the Minister of Electricity and we presented a number of projects, and some problems related to transformers and energy production in the regions of the Middle Euphrates have already been addressed."
On the 24th of last month, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, announced the ministry’s intention to “completely and gradually shift to smart systems and electronic collection, which will help citizens, without any human intervention.”
He added, "We have completed integrated studies to switch to smart meters, according to approved specifications."
