Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Shakhwan Abdullah, said that the salaries of Kurdistan Regional Government employees exceed 700 billion dinars.
Calling on the federal government to “separate employee salaries from actual expenses.”
He explained in an interview: Sending 700 billion dinars as a loan to the regional government is “a temporary matter.”
Considering that Kurdistan has “entitlements and a clear share of the budget, which must be sent.”
Abdullah said in a previous interview: “They are trying to separate the salaries of the region’s employees from its actual expenses, and to find a solution for the next three months.”
Pointing out that they “collected about 120 signatures to separate the salaries of Kurdistan government employees from actual expenditures, and like the rest of the Iraqi provinces, they will submit a project to Parliament aimed at amending the budget law.”
According to Shakhwan Abdullah, the project “enjoys a good response even among representatives who previously supported the approval of the federal budget law and led to this result.”
He said: All parties agree not to mix salaries with political issues, and we are moving towards amending the article that links salaries to actual expenditures.
The Minister of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Awat Sheikh Janab, had previously confirmed the existence of a joint understanding with Baghdad to address the issue of salaries of the region’s employees, and keep it away from political differences.
