    Today, Thursday, the National Security Advisor, Qassem Al-Araji, discussed with the Iranian Deputy Minister of Interior, Majeed Mir Ahmadi, ways to enhance security cooperation and border control, in the presence of the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq.

    The media office of the National Security Advisor said in a statement received by Alsumaria News, “The meeting discussed the overall relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance security cooperation in the field of border control, smuggling prevention, and combating drugs, as well as emphasizing the two countries’ progress in implementing the provisions of the joint security agreement.”



    Al-Araji stressed, according to the statement, “the depth of the strategic relations between Iraq and Iran, and the continuation of understanding and coordination, in a way that enhances the security and stability of the region and the world,” noting that “Iraq did not record any violation of the common border,” stressing that “it is in the interest of the two countries to cooperate to prevent any action.” It may threaten the common border,” pointing out that “the Sudanese government constantly emphasizes its commitment to the security agreement concluded between the two countries.”

    For his part, Ahmadi stressed that "his country respects Iraq's sovereignty and participates in resolving crises in the region," noting that "Iraq's success in holding provincial council elections is a success for democracy," noting that "Iran's policy is to support the government and people of Iraq."

    The meeting also witnessed the discussion of a number of issues and files of common interest, including coordination regarding religious visits to holy shrines.
