[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / The Iraqi Center for Combating Rumors warned today of the danger of social media celebrities exploiting their followers and promoting advertisements that mislead the masses and make them victims of fraud, calling at the same time on the relevant government agencies to impose income tax on social media companies and their celebrity users.
The center stated in a statement, “There is exploitation by social media celebrities of their followers and the promotion of advertisements that mislead the masses, making them victims of fraud and deception by companies that provide inferior products that harm the consumer, who is deceived by the celebrities’ promotion of those products that are sold at double prices as a result of falling into the trap of deception.”
The Center stressed the necessity of subjecting social media and the advertisements published on it to oversight and scrutiny.
The Center called on the Tax Authority and the relevant government agencies to implement Article 17 of the 2023 budget, which stipulates that “the Ministry of Finance shall oblige the Tax Authority to collect income tax from social media companies.” And foreign and local digital broadcasting platforms, as well as publishing and promotion fees from celebrities on social media sites, which are estimated at 30% on their advertising and marketing.”
The center indicated that most neighboring countries do this, and subject digital companies, advertisements for TikTokers, bloggers, YouTubers, and some celebrities who have followers from their countries, to tax because they are beneficiaries and receive huge profits from these followers./End 3[/rtl]
