Shafaq News/ The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, praised on Tuesday what he called the serious Turkish interaction with the vital development road project, calling for the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
This came during his meeting with a number of Turkish businessmen, where the meeting discussed ways to expand the economic partnership and cooperation in various fields, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
The ambassador noted the policy followed by the government in developing economic relations, and the human and natural resources that Iraq possesses, which qualify it to be a point of communication, and an area of development and partnership for all neighboring countries, calling for holding meetings with businessmen in a way that reflects the desire of the two countries to develop relations at various levels. .
Al-Lajmawi pointed to the facilities provided by the Iraqi government to improve the business and investment environment in Iraq, praising Turkish companies and their ability to achieve development, and their contributions to the reconstruction of infrastructure in Iraq, and the completion of the development road project.
For their part, Turkish businessmen expressed their gratitude for the meeting, and the Iraqi government’s keenness to cooperate with Turkish companies, stressing their readiness to work in Iraq and to create strategic partnerships with businessmen and the private sector, which has become a fertile environment for investment, according to the statement.
The development road project aims to link the port of Al-Faw in southern Iraq, which is rich in oil, with Turkey, turning the country into a transit center by shortening travel time between Asia and Europe in an attempt to compete with the Suez Canal.
The Iraqi government envisions high-speed trains transporting goods and passengers at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour, in addition to extending lines to local industrial and energy centers, which could include oil and gas pipelines.
According to the plans, the main transportation roads will be linked to the main port of Al-Faw on the shores of the Gulf through modernizing and building more than 1.2 thousand kilometers of railways and highways linking Iraq to neighboring countries.
