{International: Euphrates News} The dollar recovered Monday from the lowest level in two weeks against a basket of six major currencies but trading was characterized by weak due to the closure of many markets on the occasion of the New Year holiday.
The dollar rose to its highest level in 14 years in December , supported by expectations the markets that the Federal Reserve {} US central bank will raise interest rates three times this year and that US President - elect Donald Trump will spur inflation and growth program to increase spending.
The dollar ended the year with an annual increase of about four percent , its gains for the fourth consecutive year.
But the dollar index , which tracks the US currency 's performance against six major currencies competition has lost more than one percent in the last three days of last week. The index worsened losses during Friday briefly for the euro higher in low trading volume terms in Asia.
The European single currency jumped two full worth of up to $ 1.07 before retreating quickly.
The euro fell Monday to $ 1.0513 , while the dollar index rose a quarter of a percentage point to 102.43 , nearing the peak level in the 14 - year-103.65, which touched on December 30.
Sterling 0.2 percent and rose to $ 1.2347 near its highest level in ten days, which struck on Friday , when it reached 1.2388 Dolar.anthy
