The Montreal Canadiens are back on the road after a one game pit stop at the Bell Centre as they visit the Winnipeg Jets this evening. The team is hoping to recapture their strong play from their previous road trip after suffering a letdown at home against the Washington Capitals on Monday. Despite their recent loss, the Canadiens are still comfortably in first in the Atlantic division, seven points up on the Boston Bruins and hold three games in hand.

The Jets are battling for a playoff spot in the tough Central division. They are currently fifth in their division, four points back of the St. Louis Blues for third and are one point behind the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card spot in the Western conference. Much of the team's successhas been due to the excellent play of a trio of youngsters, rookie goal scoring sensation Patrick Laine, Mark Schiefele and Nikolaj Ehlers. Unfortunately Canadiens fans will not get the opportunity to see Laine this evening as he suffered a concussion and it is unknown how long he will be out of the lineup. Without Laine, the team's lines will be:

It would be a cruel twist of fate if Tomas Plekanec is not well enough to play tonight against the Winnipeg Jets after playing one of his best games of the season this past Monday in the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. Plekanec missed practice with the flu and will be a game-time decision as he rests and tries to recover. Al Montoya will get the start in net for the Canadiens and so expect Carey Price to get the nod tomorrow night when the team plays the Minnesota Wild. If Plekanec is ubable to play, the lines should be:

Otherwise, expect Brian Flynn to rejoin Torrey Mitchell on the third line and Chris Terry to be a healthy scratch.

These next two games on the road are a big opportunity for the youngsters on the Canadiens to continue to prove that they belong in the NHL before the team starts to get healthy again. Michael McCarron has been playing excellent hockey on the Canadiens fourth line and deserves to stay. While Nikita Scherbak had an impressive NHL debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs when he scored his first NHL goal, he will likely benefit from some more seasoning in the AHL. However, it is important that he got a taste of what the NHL is all about and hopefully he will eventually take some valuable lessons and apply them in St. John's. These games are also a chance for Nathan Beaulieu to continue his high level of play and make the coach's choice to demote him or keep him in the top four as difficult as possible when Andrei Markov returns to play... One thing is certain though, Beaulieu must stay on the first powerplay unit as it has looked its best in quite some time over the last stretch of games.

Finally, I encourage everyone to check out this phenomenal interview with head coach Michel Therrien by Eric Engels of Sportsnet (and of course a Hockeybuzz alumn):
