Lithuania has reported an outbreak of the highly contagious H5N8 bird flu virus in the central part of the country, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Monday, citing a report from Lithuania's veterinary services.
The virus was detected in six mute swans found dead in the city of Kaunas, near the river Nemunas, they said in a report posted on the OIE website.
The H5N8 strain, which is deadly for poultry but has not been found in humans, has spread across Europe, the Middle East and Africa since late last year, leading to the slaughter of millions of birds and the confinement of flocks indoors.

A Taiwan resident died of the H7N9 avian flu virus Monday evening, 23 days after the infection was confirmed, the local disease control agency said Tuesday.
The man, 69, contracted the virus on Feb. 4 and died in hospital on Feb. 27 after medical treatment failed, according to the agency.
The man, from Kaohsiung, initially felt ill on Jan. 23 when he was visiting Guangdong Province on business.
He returned to Taiwan on Jan. 25 but was tested negative for bird-flu at a hospital.
The patient felt symptoms such as fever, coughing and breathing difficulties on Jan. 29, and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
He was hospitalized on Feb. 1, and confirmed as having the avian-flu virus three days later.
The man was the first Taiwan resident and second person to die of H7N9 on the island, where a total of five human H7N9 cases have been confirmed, according to local media.
The first person to die from the virus in Taiwan was a mainland resident.

A mag 5.7 and a mag 4.8 struck east of the stricken nuclear power plant Fukushima bringing back the memories of 2011 when fore shocks struck before the big one

Two large quakes off the coast of Fukushima bring back memories of March 2011 when several large fore shocks occurred  before the massive mag 9 struck causing the death of 15,000 people a massive tsunami and the destruction of the Fukushima Nuclear plant.

A mag 5.7 and a mag 4.8 struck this morning just miles east of the stricken nuclear power plant Fukushima bringing back the memories of 2011. With another massive coronal hole facing the Earth lets hope it's not a precursor to what happened in Japan six years ago

The latest of a series of massive coronal holes has turned to face the Earth, with it’s incredible intense solar wind to smash into the Earth’s magnetosphere sometime tomorrow.
It is the latest of an incredible string of massive coronal holes which have been showing up with incredible regularity since last September.
The coronal holes have been linked to large quake and volcano activity here on Earth and we can expect major quake activity in the coming days

Oroville and Shasta Dams at stress point as early spring arrives bringing temperatures into the high 70’s to northern Cal causing massive snow melt

    • Early spring to bring another flood crisis for Northern California

Northern California is to face yet another flood crisis for Oroville and Shasta Dams as an early spring arrives bringing temperatures into the high 70’s bringing an early snow melt for the area…
The Sacramento area will bask in temperatures in the low 90’s for the next five days according to Accuweather.
NOAA claimed this week, recent storms in California have provided widespread drought relief, but also caused deadly and destructive flooding and mudslides.
Last week residents were evacuated from their homes as water poured over the damaged spillway at the Oroville Dam.
Many rivers and creeks in the Central Valley and around Northern California are at or above flood stage.
This spring, and possibly before the end of winter, we should see some warming up, which could cause snow to melt faster and flood some areas.
Snow in the high Sierras tends to produce a gradual runoff that should keep rivers and reservoirs at healthy levels through the dry season, though the sheer volume of expected runoff could cause flooding.

Oroville Dam--there is another 'dam' underground, but it is powered by electricity & the power was cut when poles were removed because of the spillway damage. The turbines in this underground 'dam' are now clogged with debris. The reason Oroville has not failed is the 9 dams in the watershed above Oroville Dam have held back waters. They are at or are at near capacity with flooding occurring in surrounding towns/roads. Warm weather & more storms on the way?
