Harvey still stops about 22% of America's oil production in the Gulf of Mexico

    28/08/2017

About 22 percent of US oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has been halted by tropical storm Harvey, the US Department of the Interior's Environmental Safety and Rescue Office said.

Production levels rose slightly from Saturday when about 25 percent of the Gulf of Mexico's oil production stopped.

The volume of production, which stopped on Sunday about 378,833 barrels of oil per day out of about 1.75 million barrels per day produced from the Gulf of Mexico.

About 26 percent of the Gulf of Mexico's natural gas production has stopped or 828 million cubic feet per day, the office said.

About 105 platforms have been evacuated in the Gulf of Mexico so far because of Harvey or about 14.3 percent of the platforms in the region. The office said half of the Gulf drilling platforms were still empty.
