Germany recovers stolen artworks worth 2.5 million euros

(AFP) - German police confirmed they had recovered a number of stolen works of contemporary expressionist painter George Bazelz worth 2.5 million euros ($ 2.97 million) after thieves tried to sell some of them.
Police recovered 15 of the 19 paintings stolen by a gang led by a transport agent specializing in the transfer of art pieces between June 2015 and March 2016.
Police prosecutor Annie Lidding, who led the restoration, Which she recovered in a safe place but refused to disclose.
Born in 1938, painter and sculptor Baseletz won world fame after leading the revival of neo-expressive art, which was rejected by Adolf Hitler under Nazi rule.
