[ltr]The dollar rose against a basket of major currencies on Monday as data showing slower job growth in the United States had little impact on expectations of further interest rate increases in the United States.[/ltr]
[ltr]The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.1 percent to 92,051, up from the lowest level since Sept. 20, which hit January 2 at 91,751.[/ltr]
[ltr]Non-farm payrolls rose 148,000 last month after a 252,000 increase in November, according to data released on Friday. Economists in a Reuters poll forecast an increase of 190,000 jobs in December.[/ltr]
[ltr]The US currency began to decline after the dollar index lost 9.9 percent in 2017, its weakest performance since 2003.[/ltr]
[ltr]Against the yen, the dollar was up 0.1 percent at 113.20 yen after trading between 112 and 113.75 yen last month.[/ltr]
[ltr]The euro settled at $ 1.2027 after the year opened strongly as the single currency rose to $ 1.2089 on Thursday, close to a two-and-a-half-year high of $ 1.2092 in early September.[/ltr]
