Pompeo will visit North Korea with a new US envoy

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Thursday the appointment of Stephen Began as special envoy to North Korea, which he will visit again next week.
"Steve will lead US policy toward North Korea and lead our efforts to achieve President Donald Trump's goal of completely and fully verifying North Korea's nuclear weapons, as President Kim Jong-un has pledged," Pompeo told the press.
"I will go to North Korea next week to make further diplomatic progress towards our goal," the US Secretary of State said in a brief statement without answering media questions.
Pompeo's fourth trip to North Korea and the second will be after the historic summit held on June 12 in Singapore between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Began, 55, has served as deputy director of international affairs for Ford Motor Manufacturing and has government diplomatic expertise after being part of President George W. Bush's national security team at the turn of the 20th century.
"The Foreign Ministry has already done an excellent job of carrying out the pressure campaign" on Pyongyang and "organizing the first summit" between the two leaders and "preparing the ground for North Korea to bear the responsibility of the promises made by President Kim," he said.
