The Times newspaper published an editorial on the escalation of tension between the United States and Iran, saying that "drums of cold war began to ring" between Washington and Tehran .

The newspaper expects a serious confrontation between the two countries, as the deadline for Washington to impose a complete ban on Iranian oil exports.

"Militant groups backed by Iran in Syria are competing with US-backed forces to control the Iraqi-Syrian border," she said.

"The Strait of Hormuz could also become a point of confrontation. The Iranian navy could find ways to block the movement of oil tankers from the Gulf to the west. Tehran conducted military exercises in the region in August," the Times said.

US installations in Iraq have been hit by rockets in Basra and Baghdad.

The newspaper said that Iran's missile attacks on the sites of the organization "Daash" is not just a process to combat "terrorism", but a warning to Israel and America that Tehran is ready to attack from the air.

Iran is seeking to "build the Persian Empire in a modern version, while the United States aims to tie the hands of the mullahs," she said.

The Times say that Iranian diplomats are barely hiding their joy that Britain, France and Germany have joined China and Russia to find ways to overcome US sanctions.

She believes that the West's duty today is to break the link between Russia and Iran, differences between the two countries which, according to the paper, should be exploited instead of divided.
