the South Refineries Company announced, today, Saturday, that it has proceeded with the trial operation of the Al-Azra unit in the Basra refinery, stressing that all the problems of the refinery will be resolved through the national effort.
The director of the Al-Azmarah unit project in the refinery, Muhammad Abboud, told the official agency, followed by Mawazine News, that "the unit is one of the pioneering and important projects as it produces gasoline, and therefore it has a major role in supporting the national economy, reducing imports and preserving the hard currency, as it has role in employing local labor and reducing unemployment.
He added, "The Azmarah units are among the old and the only units of their kind in Iraq, and they are distinguished from the Azmarah units in the Dora and Baiji refineries, but there is one similar to them, which is now in the Karbala refinery."
He pointed out that "the unit suffered from many problems, but the departments in the refinery, the unit, and the resident engineer worked gradually to solve these problems with the local expertise available in the refineries of the south and made some modifications according to extensive studies, and not waiting for a request to import the necessary materials," stressing "the move toward a start Experimental operation, which depends on two phases.” Ended 29/M99
