    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transport Affairs, Nasser Saleh Al-Assadi, revealed on Thursday evening (October 5, 2023) that the Grand Al-Faw Port project will soon enter service.
Al-Asadi said in a televised statement followed by "Baghdad Today", "We began preparing for the phase of operating Al-Faw Port during the current week, and it will operate at full capacity in 2025," indicating that "the first phase of operating Al-Faw Port will be more than 3 million tons."
He pointed out that "the discussions of the Turkish Minister of Transport (recently in Baghdad) regarding the development path were technical."
He added, "We will sign a contract with a large international company to set the general strategy for the development path next week."
Al-Asadi confirmed that “the railway connection with Iran is exclusively for the purposes of transporting passengers,” pointing out that “a metro plan has been developed that covers 80% of the area of Baghdad.”
At the end of May 2023, the Iraqi government announced a road and railway project linking the Gulf to the Turkish border, through which Iraq aspires to transform into a primary line for transporting goods between the Middle East and Europe.
The project, whose cost the government set at about 17 billion dollars and a length of 1,200 km inside Iraq, is still in its early stages.
Baghdad aspires to implement this project in cooperation with countries in the region, namely Qatar, the Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
