    Economy News - Baghdad
On Tuesday, the Integrity Commission revealed the collusion of the inspection committee in the northern port of Umm Qasr to reduce customs duties .
A statement by the Authority’s Investigations Department, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, stated that “the preliminary customs declaration for the substance “naphtha” amounting to (30,900) thousand tons was seized in the northern port of Umm Qasr, due to the existence of information about the collusion of the Customs Detection Committee to tamper with the disclosure of the substance and the declaration.” It is considered an iron dust substance, for the purpose of reducing the amount of customs duties by (124,000) thousand dollars over the amount of the actual duties, in addition to the fact that the “naphtha” substance requires an environmental examination before approval for its entry into Iraq .
He added, "The staff of the Basra Investigation Directorate at the port customs center were able to seize (5) cars carrying specialized materials used for petroleum purposes, which were declared as containing iron tanks, water tanks, and iron supports weighing (93) tons. After investigation and scrutiny, it was found that they contain (5) A package of specialized iron tanks for multiple oil uses and a boiler for isolating gas from sulfur, weighing (309) tons,” pointing out “the falsification of the delivery order and the change in the weight and true description of the goods. ”
He explained that "the team arrested two defendants who were tracking and completing transactions at the Umm Qasr North Customs without legal status," pointing out that "(4) containers were seized for the presence of unauthorized materials, which included spare tools for cars of American origin, display screens, welding machines, and materials used for agricultural purposes." It was not mentioned by the inspection committee and customs duties were not calculated, which caused a waste of public money, in addition to the seizure of another permit after (26,600) tons of undeclared plastic dyes were detected. ”
He pointed out that "the investigation and seizure team in the Basra Investigation Directorate was able, after investigation and follow-up, to arrest the owner of a (customs clearance) office in the middle port of Umm Qasr in possession of delivery orders that had been tampered with electronically, for the purpose of smuggling cars without the model. An attempt to smuggle a container containing... On (4) cars without the model according to a forged delivery order for a second container at the port’s customs, and (3) customs permits for the entry of (3) cars were seized, due to the presence of forgery in the certificate of origin and the invoice under which the cars were entered. ”
He continued, "The General Company for Ports detected violations attributed to the director of the company's legal department, as he invalidated two appeal petitions without the knowledge of the company's management, which harmed its rights, in addition to his preparing letters not to request a complaint in one of the cases being examined by the Integrity Commission." Although he does not have the authority to do so,” he pointed out that “he approached the Southern Region Customs for the purpose of reissuing a crane belonging to one of the companies .”
