Parliamentary Defense: Handing over responsibility for the security file to the Interior is one of the Commander-in-Chief’s priorities

The Security and Defense Committee in the House of Representatives pointed out that handing over the security file of the capital, Baghdad, to the Ministry of Interior is one of the priorities of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces currently.
Committee member, Talib al-Yassari, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Handing over the security file in the capital, Baghdad, is the main concern of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and the relevant security ministers, with continuous follow-up with them from the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee.”
He added, “According to this plan, a process of redeployment and opening of units will take place in various places in Baghdad and outside it, to provide the best security barrier, close the soft edges, and plug the loose ends.”
The leftist added, “This matter must be accomplished as quickly as possible so that the ministries can carry out their duties assigned to them constitutionally and legally, and each of them bears responsibilities according to its job description.”
For his part, the security analyst, Mukhled Hazem, told Al-Sabah: “Placing the military forces on the Baghdad borders is the beginning of handing over the security file to the Internal Security Forces,” indicating that “protecting cities falls on the responsibility of the Internal Security Forces in all its aspects and participates with them.” Some security agencies whose duty is in the field of preventive security, such as the National Security Service and the Intelligence Service, which provides information about suspicious movements.”
He explained, “Iraq went through difficult circumstances in the fight against terrorism. It was necessary to involve the military forces in protecting cities after their duty was to protect the country from any external exposure, but in exceptional circumstances, they participate in protecting internal security, and this is what we have witnessed for many years, as the military units were a part.” From the internal security forces in protecting cities and governorates, it reached the districts, districts, and many axes.”
Hazem stated, “The past years have witnessed a new vision and a clear improvement in security and stability after the end of the military operations against ISIS, so that the internal security file of the governorates began to be handed over to the security forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, and the military sectors were removed outside the borders of the governorates, repositioned within their barracks, and retrained and equipped.” To be forces capable of defending Iraq.
He warned that “the security file was handed over to the Ministry of Interior in several governorates, including those that were controlled by ISIS, such as Saladin, Anbar, and Nineveh, in addition to the central and southern governorates of Babil, Wasit, and Samawah, according to plans drawn up for all governorates, while we do not see any presence of forces in the capital.” The military forces and that the internal security forces, including the federal police forces, which are considered a combat force, have taken over many areas on the Karkh and Rusafa sides, while we see the national security and intelligence services protecting the entrances to Baghdad within joint points where there are military units.
