Today, Saturday, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, Mahma Khalil, accused the Minister of Immigration and Displacement, Ivan Faiq, of “violating the constitution, breaking the law, breaking the constitutional oath, and trespassing on the rights of the displaced and not standing at one distance from them,” describing its claim that there are parties preventing the return of the displaced as a “lie.”
Khalil said in a statement today, “The minister is the main reason for the displaced people not returning to their homes, because of her unsuccessful program to solve the problem of the displaced and return to their homes,” noting that “more than 10,000 displaced families returned to Sinjar in 2021 and 2022, except The Minister failed and marginalized their rights by not granting them the amounts allocated for the return of the displaced.”
He explained, “Mrs. Minister did not grant the 20,000 families who returned to Sinjar their rights, in addition to her failure to prepare the ground for their return and provide logistics for them,” wondering, “Did Madam Minister grant the displaced their rights and serve them in Sinjar, just as she granted the rights of the displaced in Jurf al-Sakhr and Salah al-Din? All of these are parliamentary questions that we ask the Minister.
Ali Agha added, “The minister announced her program for the return of the displaced, as is our desire, but she always pins her failure on accusing others, and does not acknowledge that her program is a failure, and that it is the ministry that failed by not returning the displaced and not granting them their rights and providing them with capabilities.”
He stressed, “The Iraqis have lost confidence in Ms. Minister and her program, which extended for two ministerial terms.” He accused Ms. Faiq of spending the displaced people’s money on previous election propaganda, and called on the supervisory authorities to “reveal the disbursements of the ministry’s budget allocated to the displaced in the humanitarian fields.”
The parliamentarian for the Yazidi Kurds also expressed his astonishment. “The Minister will use this humanitarian issue in her political struggle with some parties and governments. Over the course of more than two election cycles, the Minister promised the return of the displaced, but where is this ministerial program, what are her plans and decisions, and what did she provide to normalize conditions for the displaced?” In addition, we have never heard of her interest in Iraqi immigrants outside the country,” he said. He
explained, “Mrs. Minister is adopting a method of discrimination and not dealing with Iraqis on the same level. She is working to discriminate against the displaced on the basis of religion, color, sect, and political affiliation, and this is a clear constitutional violation.” He broke his constitutional oath.”
Ali Agha continued, saying that Faiq “provided all capabilities to the families of ISIS who came from Al-Hawl camp to Al-Jadaa camp, while neglecting the oppressed displaced people who are victims of ISIS, as they came in cars at their own expense and without any assistance from the ministry,” noting. The Minister violated the law by not providing a free and dignified life for all Iraqis with peace, security, and livelihood, whether displaced or not, but the displaced are the ones concerned with this ministry.”
