Experts: Spreading misleading information harms development and investment

Experts and specialists criticized the publication by some employees of official books and information related to government departments without prior approval, while they stressed that these practices mislead public opinion, are inconsistent with job behavior, and reflect negatively on the wheel of development.
The corridors of the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) witnessed an extensive symposium in which experts discussed “the standards of a committed and trustworthy employee” and the extent of their impact on development in the country.
Dr. Samir Obaid, a researcher in political and strategic affairs, said during the symposium that “the leak of information in government institutions reflects negatively on the performance of those institutions,” noting that “those institutions manage the wheel of development and any misleading information may harm investment.”
He added, “General directors and ministers must emphasize official books and not allow them to be published on social media sites, without extreme necessity,” explaining that “these practices create confusion in the work of the Iraqi state.”
For his part, media expert Aqeel Al-Shuwaili explained during the symposium that “the purpose of the lecture is to educate employees in order to avoid publishing any information on social media sites that may contribute to misleading public opinion or be used for the purposes of blackmail or to distort the reputation of the institution.”
In addition, the specialist in economic affairs, Mustafa Al-Faraj, said during the symposium that “the misleading information of public opinion has harmed societal development and has had a negative impact on investment in all its aspects,” indicating that “investment companies need a fertile environment far from false and misleading information.”
He pointed out that “some political parties are trying to push some employees to publish information and books about institutions for the benefit of those institutions or to attack opponents,” pointing out that “this contradicts the principles of job conduct.”
