The Ministry of Planning has set the twentieth of next November as the date for conducting the general population and housing census, which will be carried out in the field by 120,000 enumerators from the Ministry of Education’s cadres, and indicated that the trial version will be conducted next May.
The Minister of Planning, Dr. Muhammad Ali Tamim, said during the “Eighteenth Scientific Conference on Statistical Applications,” which “Al-Sabah” attended: There are only six months left until the general population census is conducted in Iraq, which is scheduled to be conducted on the twentieth of next November, and what We still have a lot of tasks ahead of us.”
He pointed out that “work is underway to conduct the experimental census in the second half of next May, in addition to training the workers, whose number is estimated at 120,000 enumerators, as an agreement was reached with the Ministry of Education to prepare the cadres of male and female teachers, and to prepare for the numbering and inventory stage.” Which will take about two months and will be implemented approximately two months before the census is scheduled.”
He added, “This census will be the first electronic in Iraq, and it may be the last. After it, the country does not need a census in its comprehensive sense. Rather, we will suffice with updating the data according to the broad and comprehensive base that the ninth census will provide.” During the conference, which was held under the slogan (Population Census is the pillar of development to build a future model for the population of Iraq), Tamim
called on families to cooperate with the Statistics Authority in making the project a success, by providing their data accurately, in addition to taking the real and effective role of each party according to its tasks, whether The media in its educational role, or civil society organizations in their support for the census.”
For his part, the head of the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority, Dr. Dhia Awad Kazem, said: “Statistical data and indicators have a role in clarifying progress or decline at all health, educational, and economic levels of the population,” indicating that “the general population census in Iraq will be a group of Advanced technological solutions that combine the uses of geographical information, technical statistical tools, and scientific methodology that facilitate access to accurate results of population censuses using the latest technical and visual means, to allow the dissemination of information to everyone and help in making informed policies and decisions derived from statistical evidence.”
He explained, “One of the characteristics of the electronic census is to ensure the accuracy of individuals’ data and prevent human intervention intended to change or tamper with it, as the electronic application restricts the fields and questions in logical ways, and at the same time monitors the data entry process and its time to follow up the progress of the census’s work within the time specified for it daily and evaluate performance.” "Daily."
He continued: “There is a center for communication around the clock between residents, enumerators, and those in charge of technical and technical supervision to answer all questions and inquiries, develop quick solutions in emergency cases, and issue directives remotely to workers in the field,” pointing out that “contracts have been made with international consulting bodies specialized in The field of electronic applications, data centers and communications, then preparing forms, guides and instructions and developing an integrated plan.”
Kazem touched on "the launch of the pilot census activities next month, which is the first field work station to test all stages of the census and evaluate the readiness of applications and electronic systems."
In addition, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghulam Muhammad Ishaq, said: “The census ensures that our projects and partnership with the Iraqi government are essential, and access to accurate and comprehensive government statistics enables us to respond quickly to emerging challenges,” stressing that they are “not just numbers but tools.” "Enables us to serve the Iraqi people effectively."
