A sixth licensing round for gas exploration

The Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee revealed that the Ministry of Oil has prepared a plan to announce the sixth licensing round for gas production in five exploratory blocks that will be announced in the next few days.
Committee member Alaa Al-Haidari said: “The sixth licensing round will focus on the gas field according to the plan of the Ministry of Oil and includes five blocks in a number of governorates except the Kurdistan region, to end gas imports and achieve self-sufficiency within two to three years.”
Al-Haidari added, in an interview with “Al-Sabah”, that “there is an important gas field, which is the Akkas field in Anbar, which will constitute a starting point for ending the import of gas,” noting that “the Ministry of Oil went towards opening bids and referring the field to a Ukrainian company, thus securing the status of the governorate in addition to Giving Anbar a new economic environment, and the rest of the governorates.”
The representative of the Oil and Gas Committee explained that “the Ministry of Oil has referred the flared gas contract to Total, and the company will begin the project in the coming months to end gas flaring and provide associated gas,” pointing out that “Bin Omar field is part of a package of projects and a contract by the French company Total to end gas flaring.” Also in Basra, while the joint production of Basra Gas Company and Shell reached 1,200 mqmq despite the delay of the investing company.
He added, "The package of projects implemented by Total includes desalinating seawater and using it in oil production and well injection."
