    16/04/2017

Turkish voters heading to the polls on Sunday in a referendum President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may give sweeping new powers, and paves the way for a stronger change in the political system of Turkey in its modern history.
Opinion polls gave narrowly advanced to the camp of the pro-yes vote, which will replace a strong presidency of the parliamentary democratic system replaced in Turkey and may see Erdogan's stay in power until 2029 at least.
The result will also determine the form of Turkey's strained relations with the European Union. Trimmed member Turkey in NATO, the flow of migrants, particularly refugees from the war in Syria and Iraq to the European Union, but Erdogan says he may review this agreement after the referendum.
The number of eligible voters cast their ballots at 167 140 polling stations across Turkey about 55 million people, and will open the polling stations will open at seven in the morning (0400 GMT) in the east of the country and closed at five pm (1400 GMT). The Turks made voters abroad have already cast their ballots.
The referendum has led to the division of the people considerably. Erdogan and his supporters say that these amendments are necessary to reform the current constitution, prepared by the generals in the wake of a military coup in 1980, to meet political and security challenges facing Turkey and avoid the fragile coalition governments that the country has witnessed in the past.
Opponents say it is a step towards increasing tyranny in a country where arrested about 40 thousand people and has sacked 120 thousand people or stop them from working in the campaign following a failed coup last July, sparking criticism from Turkey's allies in the West and human rights groups. Relations deteriorated between Turkey and Europe to a low level during the referendum campaign when it banned EU countries, including Germany, the Netherlands ministers from the Turks rallies to support these amendments.
Erdogan described these moves as "Nazi acts" and said that Turkey might reconsider its relations with the European Union after many years of seeking to join him.
